The Final Paint Scheme Grades of 2022

By David G. Firestone

Ross Chastain #1 Worldwide Express/Advent Health Chevy Camaro-The blue is bad, and it looks out of place. The car is over designed, and looks terrible. This gets an F.

JJ Yeley #15 World Supercross Championship Ford Mustang-It’s a smooth look, with a great color scheme, and that will always earn an A.

JJ Yeley #15 Rad Cats Ford Mustang-I like the vintage look here, and it has a great color scheme. A

Chris Buescher #17 Fastenal Ford Mustang-I like the look, the hexagons are good, and the car has a bold look. A

Todd Gilliland #38 Boot Barn Ford Mustang-The flag motif works, the desert motif could work, they just look off together. This gets a C.

Ty Dillon #42 U.S. Space Force Chevy Camaro-I like the look, the space motif is a great look, and it’s unique, and bold with a great color scheme. A

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. #47 Kroger/Nature Valley Chevy Camaro-It’s very rare that a paint scheme changes, and I can’t decide if it’s better or worse. This gets the same F the previous scheme did.

Landon Cassill #77 Mutoh/General Formulations Chevy Camaro-Another example of a good color scheme canceled out by a bad design scheme. C

Daniel Suarez #99 Freeway Insurance/CommScope Chevy Camaro-I hope that this isn’t a new template, and changing from black to white improves nothing at all.

I'm just a normal guy who collects race-worn driver suits, helmets, sheet metal, and other race-worn items. I will use this blog to help collectors, and race fans alike understand the various aspects of driver suits and helmets, and commentate on paint schemes.
