By David G. Firestone

Kurt Busch #1 Chevy Accessories Chevy Camaro-Its more or less the same scheme as Gear Wrench, so it gets a B.

Brad Keselowski #2 Snap On Ford Mustang-This is a great fade, and with a great color scheme, this earns an A.

Brad Keselowski #2 eCascadia Ford Mustang-Boy does the neon blue just not work. This is just awful. The black and silver work, but not the blue. D

Austin Dillon #3 Dow Military Degree Equivalency Chevy Camaro-There is simply too much going on here. There are two different patriotic motifs, and the sheet metal, which clash. This is awful. F

Austin Dillon #3 BREZTRI Chevy Camaro-I think the blue and green are over used here. The rear stripe in particular is pointless. It’s not a bad scheme, so it gets a B.

Kevin Harvick #4 Busch Light Apple Ford Mustang-Same scheme as last year, same A grade.

Kevin Harvick #4 Unibet Ford Mustang-The shade of green is awful here, the white designs are pointless, and the dots just don’t work. F

Kevin Harvick #4 Mobil1Thousand.com/Official Oil of Road Trips Ford Mustang-The sunset motif works well here, and the car looks great, so I’ll give it an A.

Ryan Newman #6 Wyndham Rewards Ford Mustang-My complaint here is that the white is pointless, other than that, it’s a pretty solid scheme. B+

Ryan Newman #6 Oscar Meyer Ford Mustang-This toned down scheme looks great, it’s smooth, and the hot dog motif works. A

Corey LaJoie #7 Circle B Diecast Throwback Chevy Camaro-Ok, we may have a new frontrunner for Best Throwback of the year. This is a great scheme, and it’s faithful, so it gets an A.

Corey LaJoie #7 The Boss Baby: Family Business Chevy Camaro-I think that the car is a bit over designed, and the black is completely pointless. I like the blue, so this scheme gets a D.

Tyler Reddick #8 Kalahari Resorts & Conventions Chevy Camaro-The black looks good, but the shade of blue doesn’t really work here. I don’t think the car is over designed, so this gets a C.

Tyler Reddick #8 Okuma Chevy Camaro-This is a much needed update to the Okuma scheme, where the side elements are toned down. I still think the car is a bid over designed, so I’ll give this a B.

Tyler Reddick #8 Cat #WeDigLandscaping Chevy Camaro-I really like the grass and excavator motif. I think it’s done perfectly, and the car looks great. A

Aric Almirola #10 Pit Boss Grills Patriotic Ford Mustang-Talk about a car that is needlessly over designed! This is so bad, it’s shocking! I can’t give this anything higher than an F.

Denny Hamlin #11 Offerpad Toyota Camry-I’m not saying that Denny isn’t photogenic, but I am saying that his face on this hood takes an A scheme down to a B.

Ryan Blaney #12 Advance Auto Parts Throwback Ford Mustang-It’s amazing how a color change can help a scheme. Black works so much better than red, and the car looks amazing. A

Chase Briscoe #14 CSU One Cure Ford Mustang-Same scheme as last year, same A grade.

Bayley Currey #15 Fort Worth Screen Printing Chevy Camaro-If the primary color was black, with white and yellow stripes, this would work a lot better. This is still a good scheme, so this gets an A.

Chris Buescher #17 Fastenal Patriotic Ford Mustang-This is a great scheme. It’s well designed, it isn’t over designed, and it looks great. A

Martin Truex Jr. #19 Stanley Toyota Camry-Same scheme as #20, same A grade.

Martin Truex Jr. #19 Bass Pro Shops Patriotic Toyota Camry-When you take a great scheme, and needlessly add elements to it, you take the grade down, this one to a C.

Martin Truex Jr. #19 Resers Fine Foods #LetsPicnic Toyota Camry-I like the picnic motif, and it works well, so this gets an A.

Christopher Bell #20 Craftsman Ace Foundation/CMN Hospitals Toyota Camry-My only complaint is that the car is a tad too over designed. A-

Bubba Wallace #23 Root Insurance Toyota Camry-It’s a great look, unique, and bold with a great color scheme. A

Bubba Wallace #23 Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry-I don’t mind the face on the hood, but the rest of the car is over designed. This isn’t a great look, and I give it a D.

Austin Cindric #33 Pirtek Ford Mustang-The patriotic elements look awkwardly forced here. This isn’t a terrible look, but it isn’t great. C

Michael McDowell #34 ARRMA Ford Mustang-I like the color scheme here, and the design scheme is amazing, so this gets an A.

Michael McDowell #34 Horizon Hobby Ford Mustang-It’s a good scheme, not over done, and it has a great color scheme, so it gets an A.

Ryan Preece #37 Thomas’/Kroger Chevy Camaro-The Kroger elements are awful. They look out of place, and are hideous. They take an A scheme down to a C

Ryan Preece #37 Maxwell House/Kroger Ford Mustang-I like the color scheme, and that is the only good thing I can say with this scheme. D

Ryan Preece #37 Healthy Choice Power Bowls Chevy Camaro-Black is always a great base color for a race car, and the design isn’t over done, so this gets an A.

Cole Custer #41 Code 3 Associates Ford Mustang-Another example of a scheme with nothing right, and nothing wrong. Just a meh scheme. C

Erik Jones #43 Medallion Bank Chevy Camaro-Another example of making changes that don’t really help, the changing of the colors doesn’t help the scheme, nor does it harm the scheme. C

Erik Jones #43 Scag Power Equipment Ford Mustang-This is another example of changing, but not changing the scheme. It’s still an ugly, over designed mess. F

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. #47 Scotts Chevy Camaro-Same scheme as #37, same D grade.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. #47 Kroger/BallPark Buns & Rolls Chevy Camaro-This could use some tweaks, but it’s still better than the old template. B

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. #47 Kroger/Dawn Chevy Camaro-Holy Hell does this new template work well, and when both sponsors have the same color scheme, it works even better. A

Josh Bilicki #52 Jacob Companies Ford Mustang-A smooth look, with a great color scheme will always earn an A.

Josh Bilicki #52 Rich Mar Florist/Mayhew Tools Ford Mustang-This is a good scheme, it isn’t over designed, black is a great base color, and the patriotic motif. A

Garrett Smithley #53 Clubhouse Media Group Chevy Camaro-My only problem here is the QR code is tacky, other than that, this is a solid scheme. A-

Timmy Hill #66 M&M Mechanical Toyota Camry-Same a Boathouse Bar & Grill, same B grade.

Kyle Tilley #78 Bremont/Battle Associates Ford Mustang-The flag motif doesn’t work without blue, and here it looks forced. This takes an A scheme down to a B.

I'm just a normal guy who collects race-worn driver suits, helmets, sheet metal, and other race-worn items. I will use this blog to help collectors, and race fans alike understand the various aspects of driver suits and helmets, and commentate on paint schemes.
